Tham Lod

Tham Lod is a huge through cave with a river flowing through it. you can get a guide and rend a bamboo raft for about 400 baht. The tour lasts about 1.5 hours, and the guide is there mainly to make sure you don't get lost (and to provide light). he will occasionally say things... Continue Reading →

Xmas cave

This cool cave got its name because it was discovered on Xmas many years ago. Breanne carefully making her way down (she doesn't look happy) This cave has some awesome formations and a bat! check out the rest of the pics:

The Big Knob

For our fist adventure in this region we decided to summit the big knob (a large hollow limestone outcropping). Thankfully there is a 'trail' up the back and it is only a light scramble to the top. The view from the top is amazing (I can see my house from here), but it sure is... Continue Reading →

Caves!!!

We spent the last while in a region of Thailand called Pangmapha which is famous for its hundreds of caves. We stayed in a village called Ban Tham Lod, which gets its name from Tham Lod (through cave) which is a massive cave that bisects a mountain. We stayed at a place called Cave Lodge... Goodbye Pai

Our time in Pai has come to an end. Tomorrow we are heading off to the Lod Cave (which has a large bat population inside!). Not sure how long we will stay there. Some of the highlights include the best tasting kabobs ever and steaming hot springs Here are the rest of the pics:

Pai!!!

We arrived in Pai the other day, and rented small motorbikes to get around, and see the sights. The motorbikes are lots of fun... when they work. I have developed an uncanny ability to stall my bike at any given time (I think the bike is playing games with me... I am not amused). The... Continue Reading →

Doi Inthanon

Two days ago we went to Doi Inthanon (Thailand's highest peak with a Wat near the peak). When we got to the base and tried to find a cab to the top (which should cost 30 bhat per person) the cab drivers would not so it for less than 1000. Of course we said no... Continue Reading →

Wat U Mong

We went to Wat U Mong yesterday, and it was amazing. This Wat is much older than the others we have visited. The ruins are amazing, and to top it off there are creepy underground tunnels you can walk through. Check out the rest of the pics

We made it to Chiang Mai

We made it to Chiang Mai; the 'bus' was an actual bus and not a mini van, and the A/C worked!!! For the most part we were comfortable, and at about midnight we stopped at a restaurant some where between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. As you can expect they served the usual Thai food, but... Goodbye Bangkok!

We leave for Chiang Mai in a few minutes, it is a long 12+ hour bus ride. hopefully we actually get a bus, the guide book warns of travel agencies selling bus tickets but at the last minute cramming people in small minivans... at least the tickets were cheap only 200 bhat each. We have... Continue Reading →

Wat Pho

Wat Pho in Bangkok features the largest reclining Buddha in all of Thailand (46 meters!!!). It symbolizes Buddha's passing into nirvana. Buddhas head is 15 meters abovce the ground!!! The soles on Buddha's feet are decorated mother pearl (not sure what that is), and featured many Buddha images.

The Amulet Market

We went to the amulet market today, I was hoping to find some magical amulet with +int +stam, and +spell damage but no such luck. There were thousands of 'lucky' amulets but I was skeptical as to how much luck they would actually provide, there were also many amulets made of ivory (can't bring those... Continue Reading →

Patpong Ping Pong

We did what every tourist in Bangkok must do at least once... We visited Patpong market, Bangkok's infamous red light district a few nights ago. There are numerous 'shows' one can see, from the tame 'ping pong' show, to the dangerous "dart show' and the gross bird show (we did not see that one thank... Continue Reading →

Loi Gratong Festival

This was a cool festival held all along the river's edge through out Bangkok. People would buy banana leaf boats decorated with flowers, candles and at least 3 sticks of incense, and set them afloat in the river. There was also traditional Thai dancing and music and more banana leaf boast than I could count... Continue Reading →

The Grand Palace Part 2

We made it this time The Grand Palace is amazing, the detail and the decor is like nothing I have ever seen before. I cannot even imagine the amount of man hours required to build and maintain this place. Wow The Whole Place has the same, if not more, detail. Check out the rest of... Continue Reading →

Monks!!!

There are quite a few monks in Bangkok... sure wish I could find one that speaks English, I think it would be very interesting to talk to them

Time to go home

it was quite a day, we got lost and could not find the water taxi station, but it is time to go home (khao San feels like home now). And now we unravel the mystery of the disguised military boats they go up and down the river with lights flashing why? only the Thais know

Water Taxi

Today we discovered how quick and efficient the water taxis in Bangkok are The view from the river was strange to say the least. This is an old military boat

The Grand Palace Part 1

Today we tried to tour the grand palace, but by the time we got there it was about to close... don't worry we will go back and just in case you did not believe me see we WERE there!

Bird Scam

This was our first scam. This lady came and put corn in both our hands and before we could say anything... avian chaos!!! She then demanded 150 Bhat, and almost grabbed my wallet out of my hands to get the money... in the end we paid 45 bhat for a few small bags of corn.

Weekend Market

Today we went to the weekend market, which is basically a sprawling mess of little shops stuffed to the brim with merchandise, and people. The shops seem to go on forever, and there is no way to find a shop once you have moved on. This man was at the market talking nonstop into his... Continue Reading →

Wat Tour

After the Parade we decided to take a tour of some the various Wats. A Tuk Tuk driver took us around for only 10 bhat, and all we had to do was make two stops at his 'sponsor stores' and look around, and he would drive us around town for the afternoon. The first stop... Continue Reading →

Getting around Bangkok

These are Tuk Tuks They are a great way to get around Bangkok, for a couple bhat (usually). One way to keep the price down is to allow thetuk tuk to take you to a store (usually a tailor) and all you have to do is look around for a few minutes, and suffer the... Continue Reading →
