How economic inequality harms societies

I am still working through how I feel about the whole occupy movement, and I’ll probably never come to a simple opinion on whether or not I support it. Some aspects about the movement are truly inspiring, while others just leave me scratching my head.

But one thing I am quickly becoming convinced about is that the extreme income inequality in some developed countries is deeply troubling.

Now combine that with the argument made by Larry Lessig in his new book Republic, Lost: How Money Corrupts Congress–and a Plan to Stop It and you have a recipe for disaster.

Of course the solutions to this mess are anything but simple. But at some point, collectively we will need to figure out how to reason through tough complicated problems with no easy answers. Because the problems facing us today are increasingly anything but simple.
