The path of reality is razor-thin: there’s only one way to be right, but an infinite number of ways to be wrong. The thing is, that narrow path is like a single, unbroken strand, but each path of unreality leads to every other. –Phil Plait

Ha! Is the Texas Board of Education an oxymoron? Or just the regular kind?
Also it looks as like the deniers can go back to blaming the sun pretty soon. Beautiful picture:

Your opening quote reminded me of the first line of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina: Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.
Sceptics have had it too easy in their even-handed, equal time treatment in the MSM, IMO.: there is no single coherent alternative model to oppose standard climate theory, all sceptics are unhappy with it in their own way.
@ chris
I always check out APOD. Some amazing stuff there, that one in particular. But my understanding is that the sun is coming out of an unusual quiet period. Quiet periods (aka a lack of sun spots) have a slight cooling effect on the climate. Which makes the recent warmth all the more worrisome.
@ Andy
Sometimes a single skeptic is unhappy in several mutually exclusive ways at once!
