Strong Opinions, Loosely Held

This sums me up pretty well:

Strong Opinions, Loosely Held

I do receive feedback that I express strong opinions. Some people even make that sound like a negative thing. In my networking career, my core value proposition was to develop a strong opinion to suggest, explain and justify spending millions of company dollars.

I’m not loyal to my perspectives and opinions. They are the result of the facts, commentary and knowledge that I was able to access. Give me more facts, maybe some time passes, or I’ll hear a new point of view.

While Greg Ferro is talking about opinions he developed in a long career in IT networking, the motto of strong ideas, loosely held works well in most places.

Develop your opinions based on your best understanding of the facts, but be ready to change your mind if new information becomes available.

Or to put it in more poetic terms “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds
