Canadian DMCA To Be Introduced Tomorrow Morning?

After a short delay, thanks in part to protest by many very vocal Canadians, it now appears that the government will cave to US and Hollywood demands and introduce the the most backwards copyright law ever conceived by a Canadian politician to Parliament tomorrow. Stand up fellow Canadians, call/write to your MP and get them to work for fair made in Canada copyright.

Given the short delay, it is unlikely that the bill has been altered in any fundamental ways. Despite claims that Jim Prentice (the minister responsible for this abysmal copyright reform bill) was working to balance consumer interests, it would appear that he has decided that no further consultation with Canadians is needed. He has instead bowed to pressure from the U.S. and copyright lobby groups.

UPDATE: The copyright bill wont be introduced this year.

The roller coaster that is the Canadian DMCA has taken another turn. Sometime between yesterday afternoon and this morning, the government decided to hold off. At 10:00 am this morning, the introduction of new government bills came and went without a new copyright bill. The Industry Minister’s press secretary has advised journalists that the bill will not be introduced today or tomorrow. Since the House of Commons will break at the end of the week, the Canadian DMCA will not be introduced until at least late January.
